  • (B2 - Visitor) visa: Father’s present and past work information on DS-160

    Dear All:

I am currently in USA and in the process of paperwork for my parent’s (B2 - Visitor) visa. I have a query regarding my Father’s present and past work information.

Let me list down his employment details prior asking my question to you.

Father’s present work information: (Aug. 16, 1999 till date – Part time)
    Employer: Photo Studio
    Job Title: Studio Labor
    Offer Letter: Not available
    Payment: By Cash (Monthly).
Pay stubs: Not available/ Never generated.
Income Tax: Never filed as the income was always below the tax bracket.
No Objection and Leave Sanction Letter: Can be arranging prior to visa interview.

    Father’s past work information: (Jan. 08, 1985 to Aug. 14, 1999 – Full ime)
    Employer: Advocate firm.
    Job Title: Office Labor
Offer Letter: Not available and could not retrieve.
Reliving Letter: Not available and could not retrieve.
Experience Letter: Not available and could not retrieve.
Pay stubs: Not available and could not retrieve.
Income Tax: Never filed as the income was always below the tax bracket.

As an evidence of my Father’s employment, he can produce only No Objection and Leave Sanction Letter from his current employer. During his visa interview if visa officer ask any other substantiation then he will not have any and there is no way he can make those available.

My question here is, as we will have only No Objection and Leave Sanction Letter from his current employer to show as evidence he is working in India, would it be advisable to enter his employment details or should I enter Primary Occupation as RETIRED in DS-160.

Your advice on this would help me to move forward.

    Regards,
    Amit Mayekar

    Hi Amit,
You put the right information as it stands.
If your father is working, say he is.
Since you are also going to give your father's employer's contact details along with his Job Verification/No Objection letter, it should work out fine.

    Good Luck
